THE REFERENCE
The word “unit” needs context
International units, or IU, express biological activity against a substance-specific standard. Milligrams express mass. Millilitres express volume. These quantities are not interchangeable without information specific to the substance and preparation.
What this calculator means by units
Here, syringe units mean the volume represented by markings on the selected U-100 barrel. One such marking corresponds to 0.01 mL. The mass-to-units mode connects mass to that volume using the vial strength and confirmed final volume you enter.
What it cannot convert
There is no universal IU-to-mg conversion. This calculator cannot establish biological activity from a vial’s mass and cannot choose or calculate an insulin dose. If a prescription is expressed in IU or insulin units, follow its instructions and ask the prescriber or pharmacist to resolve any mismatch with your device.
